REFLEXION - UNDERSTANDING PERSONAL GRIT // Today I would like to share my understanding on what ‘Personal Grit’ means to me.
Part of my routine to maximise my mental health is my ‘Grace, Grit, Gratitude and Growth Journal’. I call it, ‘My Four G’s Journal’. Keeping this journal and focusing on these area’s has come from experimenting with many different methods of journaling throughout my life.
My Realisations:
One of the best explanations I have on grit was given by Angela Lee Duckworth, a psychologist who gave an excellent TEDx talk on ‘Grit the power of passion and perseverance’.
Grit is passion and perseverance for very long term goals. It is stamina and sticking with your future. This may occur for an extended time, even up to years, working day in day out to make it a reality.
Grit has played a significant role in my life. Publishing my memoir ‘Finding My Rainbow’ was a long held dream for many years until it became a reality in 2023. Alongside publishing my book, I began my business ‘Rainbow Connexions’. This process was one of the most daunting and challenging projects I have ever undertaken. I felt every range of emotions, fear of failure, being overwhelmed, excitement, discouragement and pride. However, it gave me the greatest sense of achievement and confidence that I am so grateful for what the journey has taught me! Grit is true power!
